Performance Check
Maintenance of high-voltage lines
Germany has an extensive network of power lines. The transmission networks alone currently amount to around 35,000 kilometers. If the high-voltage networks are added, the total is more than 100,000 kilometers.
In the future, this intricate network of wires is to be expanded. But who will be responsible for maintenance and by what means?
Methods for testing power lines
So far, there are two methods to check a power line for defects: the inspection with a climbing harness or by helicopter. Recently, another method has been added – UAV inspections. Drones are fast, agile and very effective. Often, damage is not visible from the ground. UAVs can hover over the scene like a helicopter and take pictures or record videos. This way, the condition of the power line can be determined perfectly. Possible damages and defects include cracks, deformation of the vibration dampers or rust deposits. It is also possible to get an overview of the surroundings: trees or branches that might come too close to the power lines in the future can be precisely identified.
Testing high voltage lines with flying drones
It goes without saying that we apply the highest safety standards in the inspection of high-voltage lines. Our drone pilots are specially trained and certified for such missions. Also, we only use the best equipment: our UAV drones have excellent flying characteristics, even in strong winds.
